Just a quick note to the broad. I did some diving in Tobago as well as Barbados.
I went with two operators, one was Frontier Divers and the other Sublime.
I did both the southern coast and enjoyed Divers Thirst adn Divers Dream reefs the most. These are not dives for the faint of heart, since current is almost always present. But, I saw everything, except whale sharks. I also did Speyside, Book Ends and the saw the large brain coral. Also great dives.
Enjoyed diving with Frontier Divers the most.
The dive boats are not fancy but if your ready for adventure and a excitment Tobago is the ticket.
Take care,
SJS

Hi SJS;

I just returned from Barbados as well, and will be visiting Tobago in the Spring. I will only be staying in Tobago for four days and will not have transportation. I will be staying at Stonehaven Bay and I am totally unfamiliar. Are either of those operartors near Stonehaven Bay?

I went to Trinadad on my Honeymoon in 1987. (my wife referes to it as the honeymoon from hell), however we made a day trip to Tabago and it was a very beautiful place. I wasn't diving yet but the snorkling was fantastic. I'd love to go there to dive sometime but don't think my wife will ever get that close to Trinadad again. :froggy: :froggy:

I honeymooned on tobego 2 years ago. great diving - if intrested shoot me a PM

I am looking for someplace new for my husband and I to go diving. We have been to the Florida Keys, Cozumel, Bonaire, Curacao, Antigua, Fiji, and the Bahamas. We now have decided we like layed back and relaxed diving. Not really into the strong currents and large waves thing anymore. How is the diving in Tobago. What is the island like? Do you feel safe? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Terri

Tinidad and Tobago are both great and friendly places. Port O Spain, being a large metropolitan area, has the problems of any other city in terms of crime, cleanliness, etc... but the times I have stayed there I had a fantastic time. Never dove in Trinidad though, so I can't comment on that aspect.
Tobago, on the other hand has always been a diving paradice to me. Back before tourism hit the island big time, it was great to dive on unspoiled and previously undived on sites. Not only is the diving great, but the topside ecological attractions are first rate.
The people of Tobago have always been super-friendly and accomodating. Although the last time I was there I was hearing some unrest from the locals about the calousness of the Cruise ship passangers that came ashore to the island. This was causing a change of attitude towards tourists. Just talk to the locals and get to know them, you couldn't ask for nicer people.
I do miss the roti shacks that used to be set up around the small villages and towns like Charlotteville.
Oh, if you go to Trinidad and get to Maracas Bay, you have to try the 'Shark and Bake's'! My mouth is watering just thinking about them!!
