A wise restaurant owner once told me that the word tips was actually an acronym for

T = To
I = Insure
P = Proper
S = Service

With that being said, I personally TIP what I feel is fair for services rendered.
I typically tip a boat Captain $10-$20 and the DM $10 for a 2 tank dive.
Of course these figures can and do go up/down to reflect service level.
Example is when I went to Cozumel last year (Shortly after Hurricane Wilma visited)
I found them to be extra courteous and even though they only had two divers on the boat they took us to the south point of the island to a reef of my choosing
This being a 40 min ride instead of 5 min.
now I know with two divers that they didn't pay for the gas for the trip,but this move earned them a $50 tip.
I will always go out with this shop's (Blue Angel) dive boat when I go there
(Usually on a yearly basis)

I like waving a bill around before the dive and then when I have what I want, I put it back where it belongs. -V
