In the Titan first stage, the spring chamber is exposed to water. In the Titan Supreme first, a dry environmental kit is installed. What AL calls an external diaphragm is installed, along with a piston to transfer pressure. Thus, water cannot enter the spring chamber. I believe this was an Apeks design. In typically British fashion, they call the this piston a hydrostatic transmitter.
