Quickly checking the specs on a Helix shows the units are "resistant" to 50 meters. That's not very deep and I've been told by more than one vendor that to be useful for immersion at depth a watch should be resistant to at least 100 meters and 200 is better. Why do I care: because I killed two "dive watches" that were resistant to 50 meters. I killed them in less than 100 feet of 35 degree water.

FWIW, I've taken mine down to 60m (200') multiple times in warm waters. The depth display shuts off at 40m, but then comes back on once I come back up past that point. I figure I'll keep using it on all my dives regardless of the depth and when it dies it dies - it was only $30 anyway.

In the meantime I'm looking at alternatives, but haven't found anything to my liking yet. In particular I want something that displays depth and dive time, including the seconds (like the Helix), and ideally would be watch-sized, but I'm leaning towards getting an aladin tec once they come out with a new model.

I have a timex rubber strapped helio watch the same as FREEDIVER describes. . They are very easy to use. Dont pull the stem out yet. Unlock the lock symbol from bottom slider slide to the left then turn stem and the watch displays . Dive track. Dive chrono. Timer. Alarm. and then normal time display. You can lock it again by sliding the slider to the right wherever you wish and bingo. You are set to go. The dive watch responds only after you dive about 5 ft under the water. I have a computer but like to carry this watch on my BCD as a secondary device should my battery fail on the comoputer. It hasnt so far and the watch keeps perfect record of the divbe. It includes depth, temperature. The alarm can only be used out of water set daily at one time to your choosing. Dont forget to lock of the watch when desired function is reached. You will see the little lock symbol appear after locking.

Just to add ... they will be referred to as the Timex Helix DM. They made several different models in the Helix line..DM was the diving version.

I got mine on ebay (a few years ago) as well.

Hmmm, looked and none are showing up currently. Maybe I'll look at some of Casio's depth watches.
