so far I am leaning towards the Ranger for a good jack-of-all BCD's. I can always utilize a BP/W when necessary, or more likely a side mounted rig
A last thought, in part prompted by driftwood's post: there are usually quite a few used Ranger's for sale on eBay. You might check that site out as well. While pool water will still do the same thing to the colors on a used Ranger, it may be easier to accept if you paid $165 rather than the MSRP or even the LP price of $749. And, for what it is worth, I have a instructor colleague who has long be 'sidemounting' with a modified Ranger (he calls it his FrankenRanger).
