If it's not just mudslides making the news in "sunny" California...

Sorry, I've tried unsuccessfully posting the link. If you google "Lion in Simi Valley", you'll get a few articles about a suspected African Lion loose near the Reagan Library. They are unsure where the exotic was kept.

Jann Martel makes an interesting arguement for Zoos in Life of Pi. I'm not convinced but it makes for good reading.

[Addited] Funny, I googled "lion loose california" and came up with the New York Times article, and the above link. However, if you click on the link or copy it into the address bar, you get a page that say's you must be a subscriber. Sorry.

What makes you think this had anything to do with zoos? Seems to me if a zoo wanted to get rid of a lion, there are plenty of others that would take it, or they would euthanize it.

The article implies that the lion might have come from an 'animal sanctuary' that was shut down for poor conditions. Pretty ironic, if you ask me...' I thought 'animal sanctuaries' were typically places that took in mistreated or unwanted animals, kind of like a foster home, usually run by animal activists who want to give mistreated animals a better life.

If this lion exists, my bet is some idiot had the lion as an illegal pet, and 'set it free' when it got bigger than he could handle. That seems to happen a lot with all kinds of critters.

Until the lion and it's source is found, I suggest you not use this incident to support a personal bias.

Here's another link for you:

He's already toast. This has got me thinking though; I wonder what tiger tastes like.

The intention of the title of my previous post was sarcasm, and a play on another thread that questioned the "humanity" of zoos. The point was that it is better to have this animal confined to a zoo than running around Simi Valley. By no means do I think that a zoo released the animal. For the sake of the area's residents and the lion, I hope it is caught quickly.
Thanks for your suggestion anyway...

Repeat: Tiger
