I have had big problems equalizing my right ear for my pool dives...left ear no problem but right ear just wouldn't clear. This has caused much pain, fullness, aggravation over the last couple of weeks. It's enough of a challenge to learn the skills without the distraction of an ear that just won't clear. I've been to the doctor *take Advil Sinus* was the response, which did nothing. So I decided to research this board yesterday for a few hours and I FOUND A SOLUTION ! Just by tilting my head to the left and gently pinching/blowing my nose, I found I could equalize my right ear (and vice versa). I would never in a million years have figured that out on my own.

You have no idea how relieved I am. Well yeah you probably do  I sat here at my keyboard for over an hour just equalizing my right ear, because I can LOL !! Honestly, this board should be mandatory for all newbies.

I am so grateful that the knowledge is willingly shared and look forward to the day when I can give back to this board. I just wanted to say thanks!

Welcome to the new sports. Yeap, I can't agree more. This board is fantastic. Members up here are great.............and that's what make more new members come onboard.

Good luck and enjoy your certification dive.

Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of diving! I couldn't agree more...ScubaBoard is a fantastic resource! I consulted these forums many times during certification and found some great advice, and some fine people who take the time and effort to help us all be better and safer divers. It's likely that the more you dive, the more you'll be reading the ScubaBoard forums!

Best of luck on those certification dives...and many years of safe and happy diving!

I assume you wre told to move your head left or right to straiten you eustation tube. It works pretty good.

I'm amazed that all instructors don't teach that...

Enjoy your diving and time online here at SCUBABOARD!

I agree. Scuba Board is the best forum I've ever found. :)

By the way, with regards to your ears, even when you aren't diving, you can practice clearing your ears. If you do it several times a day, the eustachian tubes will become more elastic, and this will go a long way towards making it easier to clear your ears when you dive.

No, I was only taught to pinch my nose and blow, not to tilt my head. Such an easy, easy thing...but if nobody tells you how do you know !!

Welcome to Scubaboard !!

It's not just newbies who think this board is great. I have been diving for 30 years and still find that I am learning lots from this board even from members who have less years of diving or less dives logged.

Dive safely !!!
