I'm thinking come spring, i'll contact the golf courses around me and see if I cant get a job as a golf ball savager And there's a lot of golf courses around where I live. I can probably fly under the radar and not really be an "official" company and have to pay taxes or anything seeing as I'm a minor. Do many people do this? How is pond visibility?
Do the balls "go bad" after sitting in the pond for a long time?
Thank you!

No they do not but you might. Diving in a pond full of fertilizer and god knows what chemicals that have run off into them. And what about things like snapping turtles, snakes, and muskrats¿ All of them bite. And how are you at braille diving? Cause that's what you'll be doing. Zero vis, seeing only with your hands?

If i wear a wet suit hood and gloves can they still hurt you? Minus the snakes. And as far as the cleanliness of the pond, the 4 that i know of are maintained pretty well, and they're not stagnant.
Thanks!

Try google and you will find articles about this subject. Golf ball diving is:
1. A multi-milion dollar business
2. Jelously guarded by those who have the contracts with the golf course and theives (non-contract) are procucuted.
3. Dangerous, yes the turtles and such can bite you thourgh the suit. Some courses have gators too.
4. As a minor, you would be hard pressed to get the contract. Oh by the way "flying under the radar" and not paying taxes is a crime. Even as a minor you have to report your income if you make over the limit. You enjoy the protections of the police, fire, and the US Military to protect you, and the schools you attend and the roads you will drive on etc and so you must pay your taxes like everyone else.

When I was in HS and college it came to be known I could dive. I was asked to find all sorts of stuff. Sometimes I did. It led to grand adventures and occasionally a bit of danger and once in a while a few dollars. When people ask me to find something now, I tell them---NO!

What exactly is "The limit"?

Nick if you are asking these questions I think you better talk to your parents about how they feel about having you dead. Golf ball diving when you are not experienced and when you are can lead you to dead. You can drown in a few feet of water simply becasue you can not see and do not have the experience to stop think and react when it is a life threatening situation I have read about divers drowning becasue their ball bag was entangled in their regulator and they could not retrieve it or could not get tho their second.

Also with all of the chemicals that are poured to make that grass green and bug free sitting in that small little pond I would not want to get into it with out a haz mat Dry suit with a full face mask. You may be fine until you are around 22 and then all of sudden you end up with a weird cancer.

Or best case is that the diver that has the insurance, licensing and pays their taxes that was diving that course before you moved in is going to call the state local and federal tax authorities and they are gong to want a big bite out of your parents. Ask Mom and Dad how they feel about having a federal and state tax lien against their house. Cheating on your taxes is not worth the risk

$5,800, for earned (as opposed to investment) income.

If you do a google search for golf + ball and restrict it to this site you will probably dredge up a lot of useful information from people who have been in the golf-ball retrieval business.
