There I was getting desperate, I searched high and low and I couldn’t find it. So I called a dear friend and asked for help. “I’m desperate – I need something to…. read”

Well it did sort of go that way, actually we got into a conversation on what we were reading, and what we recommended to each. In a heartbeat he recommended the Tiller Galloway series by David Poyer. Soon there after, I was off to the bookstore and was able to find one of the books. Got it home, settled down to be (hopefully) be entertained. Within a few pages I was hooked. (Great call PS) Not only was it a good thriller, but the central character was a diver.

As a result of finding this author, and doing a bit more investigating I’ve also found two more authors who have divers as their main character. One I can already recommend – the Ben Gannon series by John McKinna. The other, a book by James Rollins, I’ve just started reading so I don’t know yet – but I couldn’t put the book down for the first few chapters, so I think it will turn out to be a good one.

Most of my friends won’t be surprised when I now ask a question:

So, how about you? Do you know of any other good books (fiction) that are not only a good read, but involve something we all love doing – diving?

BTW here’s a list of some of the books for the authors (no I haven’t read them all, but I plan to)
David Poyer: Bahamas Blues, Hatteras Blues, Louisiana Blues and Down to a Sunless Sea
John McKinna: Crash Dive, Tiger Reef, Shark Lake
James Rollins: Deep Fathom

Robert Lewis Stevenson III

He has 2 or 3 I think, Torchlight is the one that I read.

I've read David Poyner's books but didn't know about the others. You can bet I'll be hunting for them!

Is Poyner's mystery type ?? Inquiring minds want to know??.....

DG ...What about the others ??

Yep, mystery.

Another series of mysteries I enjoy which are NDR, but do involve the water are by Randy Wayne White.

Sanibel Flats, The Heat Islands, The Man Who Invented Florida, Ten Thousand Islands, Captiva, The Mangrove Coast and North of Havana.

Don't forget Clive Cussler, his hero is a diver for NUMA(fictional gov agency), Dirk Pitt. Plus he even started NUMA on his own and finds many lost wrecks...

...but not necessarily Scuba Diving. Cussler usually puts him in a zillion dollar underwater vehicle that he has to perform some amazing rescue from. But hey, its fiction and its fun. BTW, I have read all the the Dirk Pitt novels, many several times. Cussler has also penned a couple of his own real adventures searching for wrecks with NUMA.

I really wouldn't call them mystery more of a thriller type. Poyner and McKinnan both have a commercial diver using their skills to do their job, in doing which "something" happens. For instance: In Mckinnan's Shark Island - a friend is captured by rebels, placed in a island prison and the hero must dive into the lake which has large bull sharks (aggressive ones) and rescue his buddy. the details you'll just have to find out for yourself Well I guess there is a bit of mystery, you don't know the full story of why the action is happening until the end of the books.

I read the thread title and came in expecting something a little more risque... Now I am even more desperate than I was when I logged on... thanks

If you're not insistant about your stories being fabrications, Expedition Wydah, about Barry Clifford's hunt for pirate treasure off Cape Cod, is a pretty good read.
