... and your thoughts on this new national monument?

NWGratefulDiver:
I thought politics was verbotin on this board.

I thought this thread was here to discuss the merits of a national sanctuary.

If you want to bash Bush, Clinton, left wing-nuts, right wing-nuts, environmentalists, anti-environmentalists, Michael Moore, Ted Kennedy, or anyone else ... please take it to another forum.

Apparently they are not considering the number of political posts present....it would be interesting to see where the Blue/Red divide exists in the diving community compared to other groups. I would personally guess more blue considering the environmental nature of our sport and the environmental record of the current admin.

Where's the non-diving related thread.....let's take a poll.

Any legislation that helps preserve what little natural resource we have left in this world is a good thing.

Wouldn't it be nice if people who are being born this year can enjoy some of the natural resources we enjoy today when they are our age?

I would guess that greed, self-interest, short-sightedness, petty partisanship and stupidity are pretty much color blind.

When I come to ScubaBoard, I don't personally care what your political motivations might be ... I am far more interested in your views on scuba diving ...

We only have a little natural resources left? I need to get out more.

We don't have any natural resources left? I need to get out more.
Of course ... that's not what I said (not that it will prevent you from misrepresenting my words anyway).

But if you think our planet's resources aren't being used up at an alarming, unsustainable rate, you really DO need to get out more. One has only to look at what has happened to the planet's major fishing grounds over the past few decades for some examples.

I've only been on this planet 54 years, and I can see a remarkable change in our world during my lifetime.

and I reworded it too Bob, "an alarming rate", sounds like personal opinion.
And just who IS over fishing? The world does have its job cut out to support mankind, but mankind is part of the world, not the problem as I see it, my opinion.

Regardless of any politics involved, I was happy with the news.

OK.

Let me rephrase my point.

This thread is about the creation of a marine sanctuary, not about gas mileage, SUV's, politics, etc.

It would be advisable to keep posts relative to the topic.

Of course it's personal opinion ... what else WOULD it be?

I don't think mankind is "the problem" ... but too much of mankind might be.

To that end, and to reiterate what I said earlier ... anything that helps preserve some of what we have left is (in my opinion) a good thing.
