The WL clean up dive went great in my book. It was still going on when I had to leave but we sure pulled up a lot of junk off the bottom. It was amazing the single shoes I pulled out of that place. It's kinda like....where do the dang socks in the dryer go??? Well, now I know where that one lost shoe goes...White Lake!!

It really amazed me the amount of broken glass we were pulling out of there. Dont ever go in WL without something on your feet !

Look forward to doing that next year.

What was the vis like there? I used to swim there when I was a kid, but never went outside the high traffic swimming areas. Any interesting places to dive just to get wet for cheap?

well....the vis was pretty good actually. Probably about 15 to 20 feet. It got worse as the day went on around the pier because as you picked up something it would stir up the bottom. And, since we had to get with in arms reach to pick up something odds were if you had junk in your sack it wouild drag bottom. But initially not bad.

I was hoping that WL might be a better place than Fantasy quarry in Raleigh but the depth at WL is just to limiting.

If you do give it a try....be absolutely sure you have a dive float and be careful. Even though they could see divers all around the pier, people on skibos and similar machine would come flying up to the pier.

Thanks. I'm heading to the Carolina's next month and may try to sneak a dive in. I'll be in Charlotte part of the time and Lumberton other part if it works right, so may sneak over to White Lake or thereabouts.

check out fantasy quarry in raleigh and rawlings quarry in va.

Dove Fantasy Lake (quarry) back when I was at N.C. State. It was pretty nice then, but I've heard vis has gone to heck. Dove Rawlings with my son last summer and that is the best quarry I have ever dove. Clearest water north of Fl that I've seen.

Looking to dive really close to Lumberton area on the cheap. Also looking for some really interesting diving (i.e. river diving).

Anybody else interested let me know. Waccamaw river sounds like potential as well.
