I originally wanted to post this in Alcina's old thread but I figured I'd just begin a new thread. 1.5 years after I posted about it I was able to step inside for myself.

There are 2 traveler's lounge - one that is open 24 hours (by the gates, in the groove of the Y shape) and one in the main terminal that is only open during regular hours (the plaza premium lounge). I stayed in the 24 hour lounge. Here's what the official website says:
located at West Hall (near Gate 60) of Departures Level, we provide all passengers first class lounge services and facilities - All day food & beverages (include noodle), shower, internet access, international newspapers and magazines, international TV channels, comfortable seating area, etc.

By paying a single entrance fee, you can enjoy all services and facilities. We operate 24 hours daily. (Please click the above service names for details).

Now let me give you an unofficial down low.

Here is the entrance:

It opens up to the front desk:

Cost is 47 USD for 5 hours. There's also an option for 2 hours, half a day, and package combos. See here.

The first thing they ask you when you sign up is if you would like a 15 min massage or a nap room. There are also showers which you sign up for and they provide the towels and soap gel/shampoo (shower does not have bathroom - it's just a shower with mirror). If all the showers are taken, and you drop the hint that you are in a rush, they have "special" showers upstairs that they will let you use. And it's not the type that has a "happy ending", it's just they don't want to use more showers than they need to.

They have comfy couches. The 24 hour lounge was kinda crowded (I arrived 4:15am so everyone wanted a comfy couch) but I was able to snag one. I had to arm wrestle some old dude for it but I came out on top.

They also have wifi connection. If you plan to go to the lounge for just wifi, don't bother - the entire airport has wifi. BUT, in HK they have weird rectangular slots as outlets so you'll need an outlet adapter - which the lounge can supply you. If you don't have wifi or a laptop, they have a bunch of computers you could use to check your email, update your stock portfolio, finish up that thesis manuscript, or browse the net for porn.

If all the computers are taken, then you can watch TV. There's CNN, BBC, ESPN, skysports, cartoon network,..... enough to keep you entertained. There are also magazines and newspapers you can browse.

Oh and they have a snazzy cafeteria. Drinks are complimentary so I grabbed all the chocolate vitasoy I could. I swear they sprinkle cocaine in that goodness. If you're not too big on cocaine, there's an espresso/coffee maker as well as bottled water and softdrinks. Unfortunately, the official website lies about the traveler's bar - it is not open 24 hours so in the wee hours of the morning I couldn't drink my sorrows away or tell some bartender how my wife left me for the mailman.

Buffet breakfast begins 6am. If you're a hungry hippo such as myself then they have cute little sandwiches that are available all the time. Nothing beats sandwiches made 24/7 by the hardworking sweat of a chinese kitchen labourer (Don't worry folks, I used to remind my mom everyday!). Vegetarians, have no fear for the spinach sandwich was tasty. For you vegans, there's toast, cereal and soy milk and a knife so you may consider killing any pretentiousness you might have.

As for the buffet - it was simple but delicious. Some cereal, toast, bacon, eggs (scrambled or hardboiled), and my favourite: the stir-fried noodles.

Last, don't think about scamming. If you pay for 2 hours, then stay for 2 hours and leave. Or you risk the embarassment of the conceirge asking you to leave and letting everyone in the lounge know that you overstayed for 30 mins (this did not happen to me, but a family of 3 across from me).

Overall, it was a nice place to kill 5 hours.

Pros:
* 24/7 food and drinks
* comfy couches
* laptop plugged in
* relative safe place to keep stuff (not saying it was completely safe, but I wasn't the only one leaving my stuff out when heading to the buffet and back multiple times. Perfect way to solve this: larger plates!)
* showers
* massage

Cons:
* a bit crowded, but I suspect it was because of the time I went (4am-9am, when the entire airport is on relative downtime)
* people that snore
* No washrooms - had to exit the lounge to use washroom. (what the heck is this? Dangit, I'm paying extra for this lounge I expect a basic amenity such as a washroom! I don't want to be peeing next to simpleton travelers! :28:)
* Old dude I arm wrestled kept eyeing me the entire 5 hours.

And if it wasn't obvious in the first place:

For all you HK airport goers, feel free to add some stuff.

nice Chip... did you get escorted out for harassing the female guests? :mooner:

man pak, I thought she was coming on to me, but it turned out she was just snoring. :(

damnit. where was this thread when i was forced to do a 7-hour stop over in HK?

Mags, how can you miss this lounge? there are signs for it everywhere in the airport :mooner:

nice and well worth knowing IF i ever get there!

now that old guy arm wrestling... who was there first? and what ever happened to respect your elders :wink:

Actually, I lied. By saying "I had to arm wrestle some old dude for it" I really meant to say "I pushed the frail geyser down the stairs in his wheelchair." He had it coming...
