A few months ago a buddy of mine (profile for reference: Single, young, active, dives a lot, lives alone... you get the idea) and I were yapping online. He mentioned that he'd be right back... had to go pull a pizza out of the oven.
He comes back and is laughing. He had to break into his Dry Box to dig out a pair of pliers to get the pizza out of the oven.
Are you following me?
Dude was in his kitchen, standing in front of the oven, simply reached over to the nearby Scuba Dry Box, busted out some pliers (and you know they weren't rusted at all), applied tool to food, moved aside the reg that was probably soaking in the sink, and likely ate the pie standing up.
I'm so loving this.
Just yesterday, I received independent confirmation from another visiting buddy that his kitchen does indeed double as dive locker. The TM I recieved read: "OMG, he has scuba gear in his kitchen cabinets..."
This is genius. Dude can rinse his mask and grab a brew at the same time. My buddy can lube his DS zipper and nuke a hot pocket without moving his feet. He can pack his dive bag for a morning dive and have a bowl of Capt'n Crunch at the same time. Why the hell didn't I think of this?!!??!!
So I'm thinking - This guy clearly falls into the demo where ScubaTool = LifeTool. I think its about time the ScubaTool received a redesign.
My nominations for additional attachments include:
* Bottle Opener. I know, any self-respecting beer drinker has already scoped out all possible bottle openers in the vacinity (chain link fence, front teeth, car door) but for those less imaginative of us, this may be useful.
* Corkscrew - duh. Nothing like a sweet Santa Inez Pinot after a long day of diving.
* Spork - I mean, why have a fork AND a spoon when a Spork will do. Less is more.
* Remote Control - Heck, if he keeps his Scuba gear in the kitchen there's probably a TV in there too. No need to ever leave the place. I nominate a universal programmable remote.
* Wii Controller - If he has a TV in the kitchen, he doubtless has his game console nearby. The guys at Trident need to fold a Wii controller into this thing.
* USB Thumb Drive - I'm thinking this young stud is very connected, and probably has data on the go. When the ScubaTool moves to LifeTool he probably wants to keep his data close at hand.
I could go on (and I will) as I have lots of other ideas. Lets hear from you.
To meet the needs of a new generation of divers who LIVE to dive, to the extent their kitchen is their dive locker... what would a savvy product manager add to the ScubaTool?
