Ok, isnt Scubapro more of a rec-oriented line, while Poisedon is more for tech diving?

I dont know were people are getting the idea that ScubaPro Is some kind of sport diver only company.
They invented air 2,there regs are world class, and i would put the ScubaPro Mk25 and MK17 up against any of these socalled Tech Regs.
in cold water you could not find a better reg then the MK17/G250 reg.

Apex, posieden, atomic.aqualung are good regs but no better then Scuba Pro.

Rental shops around the world stock there regs because they are very reliable .
Also scuba pro has a good reputation for keeping parts availible for older regs.

Even the simple MK2 reg is a very reliable reg,i have seen alot of wreck divers comment on the MK2 and they dive 120ft plus.

As long as you didn't tell the students, "whatever you buy, do it online, you'll save money" I think you can relax about the moral quandry.

What the ****** is a certification class, dive instruction, or equipment sales demonstration? I appreciate youur wanting to be delicate about it in your friend's shop, but IMO all recreational divers would be WAY better off if scuba instruction was taken out of retail shops and put into separate organizations like community colleges, private dive schools that sold no equipment, or something like that. No way will that happen, but it's nice to dream.

I dont think I can respond to all of the salient points of the original post so I wont try but Iwill tell you of my experience of my OW class and subsequent gear purchase decision process.

I did my OW in Greece but live in scotland I did take close note of my instructors gear and asked him a lot of questions most of which he responded to entirely from his own point of view and experience of that equipment he did not try to steer me as he was not working for a dive store but told me implicitly that I should test gear then buy what I found was best for me. (I beleive the op did the same .......although admitedly with some concern for his friends business)

When it came to gear Purchase I took my instructor advice I rented I trialled I asked even more questions of my dive store and then I bought.

As a student and a new diver I did what I was told I listened to advice I tried the equipment and I made the decissions based on my experience of the kit.

I will note I think the only thing I bought that my instructor wore during my OW dives was a scubapro wetsuit......

I guess what I am trying to say is that the op made the point to his students that they need to try rent then decide what to buy he's given them the the info they need to make the best decisions for themselves it's their call what they buy.
