Tom, I can tell you about it. That is where I did my checkout dives 10 years ago. FYI, it is just south of Houston. Take Hwy 288 heading south to and exit Allen-Genoa. Turn left on Allen-Genoa to Cullen Blvd. Turn right on Cullen Blvd and go for 1 mile to Schurmier (sp?). Turn left and head down the road for about 1.5 miles and it will be on the right.
If you are down here visiting your mom and you want to go get in a dive or two, it is a good place to go. I have not been diving there in over a year so I can not speak for it now but I know they have fixed it up quite a bit lately.
From the way you describe the place in Terrell, it is a lot like it. It is used as a training facility but it is also open to the public. It is 40 feet at it's deepest point and they do have a bus and several boats sunk there. The vis can be anywhere from 20 feet to where you can't see your hand, the surface water temp during the summer is very warm (85-88) until you hit the thermocline at about 30', then it drops into the 70's. I have never been diving there during the colder months.
If you are down this way, going to check it out, and need a buddy, send me an email.
