Still in my quest to find dive sites to try while on Cape in August.
Saw this on Scuba New England Website for Mass Diving spots:
The Old Canal - Has anyone (Mass Diver) dove this???
The Cape Cod Canal has not always looked as it does presently. After the Army Corp of Engineers gained control of the canal, major improvements were initiated. One of these improvements included the re-routing of the canal on the Bourne west end.
Major dredging occurred with the material forming a new man-made island now known as Mashnee Village. The old canal was left in place and you may now dive in the remnants.
This dive may be done as a boat or a shore dive. Using a boat will allow greater safety and more areas to be covered. Follow signs from the Bourne Bridge rotary to Mashnee (Trowbridge Road to Shore Road to President's Road to Mashnee Road. Follow the long causeway leading to Mashnee Village). Park your car by Kokomo's Restaurant on Mooring Road. The entry site is the sandy beach in front of you.
