I seem to recall that Scubapro actually did something like this as a demonstration for the number of divers that could breath through one of their 1st stages. Nice pr stunt.

Instead of mounting the multiple cylinders in the back of a diver, mount them in a cradle neutrally buoyant

... it should work great for hang tanks ... especially for places like the Blue Hole in Belize, where so many divers go OOA on the ascent ...

Actually, probably not. the first stage is not likely to give enough gas to run all those second stages. But, if it did, 28 divers at 0.7 cuft/min each is about 20 cu ft/min, so I guess the hang tank might last through a safety stop....

But then you could get rid of your weight belt! How liberating would that be? Of course the problem, then, would be turning from stone back into yourself... There may be a few bugs in that idea.
