Has anyone taken the Maritime Archaeological Survey Team (MAST) workshop?
It looks like it is a very similar workshop with the Nautical Archaeological Society (NAS) workshop. I know that The Maritime Archaeological and Historical Society (MAHS) in Maryland is also based on the NAS syllabus.
Please let me know if anyone has the first hand experience.

Thanks in advance,

No experience, although I know a few who are a part of this in the Ohio area. I am considering taking their workshop/training in April if the dates fit. I will know more next weekend as I am attending a seminar they are putting on at ScubaFest 2007

First of all, thanks for your quote. My initial post looks weird.

As for your question, anything about the course experience, such as course material, coverage, course formation, and project etc......

Have you taken this?

Yes. that's one where my inquiry starts. I have taken NAS class in Canada, so I would like to figure out if there is any difference. If there is anything new, I will be in April class. I also send an email to them though. I would like to hear from both sides.

The Chicago Underwater Archaeological Society of Chicago has been trying to arrange a NAS class for about a year now, and hasn't been able to get it to work out yet. This is frustrating for me a little because I have already been on a few surveys, and feel I could use a little more instruction. I have never heard of MAST! Do you have contact information?

I have the course on videotape but haven't looked at it all...the book is no longer in print as far as I cold determine and quite expensive aftermarket.

Here it is.

As I mentioned, I also sent an email to find out the class more detail. I am with you that it is the first time to hear of MAST. I don't think NAS classes have been offered in U.S. territory (due to various reasons). Even though there is a NAS officer in OH charter, the class hasn't been offered.

As you may know, Maritime Archaeological and Historical Society (MAHS) in Maryland is based on NAS syllabus and is offering the Video classes. As I was tod, MAHS instructor is willing to travel for the class. It is also a good class.

I tried to find the Chicago Underwater Archaeological Society booth at the Chicago show last month, but my old eyes couldn't catch it (It is my shame). I must be very tired.

Please let me know how it goes...

It looks like NOAA may hold a trainers program for the NAS program this summer. This program will be to "train the trainers" and if it woorks we should have 5 to 8 NAS qualified trainers in the US.

SO, this fall or winter there may be more hope to get these courses run.

Any reference for the summer trainers program.
