Not an issue with my flights around SE Asia, thought they gave similar carry on limitations, no airlines really enforce the rules. People still bring on two or more suitcases and a bag with them without issue. In fact, with all the electronic ticketing and check-in, if all you have is carry on luggage, you never even encounter any gate keepers. What you describe is another one of the joys of living in 'Murica
