The Calypso, once used to destroy coral reefs, will make a return to the ocean

JYC was a giant. If there were the likes of him and his crew today we'd know a lot more about the oceans then we do now. JYC started his exploration of the oceans with the same belief as everyone did at that time. The oceans were limitless in their capability to provide the world with food and other resources. He came to discover everyone was wrong. JYC could be considered the catalyst for the modern "green" movement. Without him and the Calypso we would be lacking much knowledge and understanding of the ocean environment.

Would the OP like to judged by one event in his life he did with good intentions but was proved wrong decades later?

Just think about the stupid stuff you did or said at 15. What JYC did in the 1950-70s was much the same. We all do dumb things that we learn from and makes us better people.

For comparison, in the 1950s most sewage and industrial waste was dumped directly, untreated into public waterways. At the time it was just ignorance. Today, we aspire to have waste water that is not just free of bacteria laden sewage, but of the remaining nitrates that will cause algae blooms. our understanding of the problem has matured a lot. JYC was certainly part of that maturation.
