Hello Scubaboarders!

This is my 250th post here! Prior to this post, I've had many comments to various threads.

I was PADI OW in '88 and quickly had a few bad buddy experiences (either ditching me or freaking out), so I quit the same year. In May of 2006 I was snorkeling on Kauai and instantly regained interest in scuba diving. I am redoing my OW training w/ PADI, and have my OW dives starting in Monterey Mar 3, 2007. So...

THANKS! SB.

Get busy living, and get busy diving!

Ha.

Nobody sent me greetings. Maybe it's because I've decided to go european and stop showering?

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Maybe, perhaps if you got your cert from a different agency(like the one I did)
Perhaps, just maybe people wouldn't be so inclined to ditch you all the time....

Just Kidding!!!!!!!!! Welcome Back!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for acknowledging my contention that I exist.

So what agency is the right one? You know you loser turds that argue about meaningless crap and regale us all with drivel from decades ago and pontificate about the virtues of agency X over school of thought Y really wear everyone out.

Thanks again for acknowledging me.

Just kidding back!!!!
Yeah, Baby!

There really is no right or wrong, go with the one with the best instructor. The arguement's i've seen here about agencies is no different than taking sides at a sporting event. My car is faster than yours, blah, blah, blah. Seriously, find a instuctor that is passionate about teaching not someone burnt-out. Look for duration of class, the more time you can spend the better off you'll be.

Goodluck!

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. I'm looking at PADI AOW soon after my OW dives (seems too soon, but i'm up for it) then I'm looking at more training to get in the time w/ an experienced dive. Either PADI, SDI, SSI, TDI, I'm not sure yet. Also have a good friend who I can dive w/.

BTW, I was kidding in my rant above.

Blah..don't be kidding about the rant...it's something that needs to be said and hammered home. Brian has it right...you can get good instruction with any certifying agency, it's all in the instructor (and by extension, the philosophy at the shop) where you're receiving your instruction. PADI can be as good as any.

Good luck on your checkout dives...and feel free to come up and visit us in Oregon/Washington after you're through with Monterey (which'll be a few years...from what I hear the diving down there is amazing..:) ).

Cheers,
Austin

Lucky you, doing your recertification dives in Monterey! Enjoy the hydrocoral and the amazing blue rockfish. There's a great dive community down there -- I was lucky enough to enjoy the hospitality of some folks when I was down there in october.

Welcome back to scuba!

I am glad you found your way through the "turds" in the water. Based on what I've read about how little dive instructors make.... I can not think anything really negative about divemasters and dive instructors... They must truly love their job, and I am sure you will find some great ones, regardless of of what agency you chose...

i'm not even gonna start the "should you do 'PADI:OW2' straight after' PADI:beginner to scuba diving' debate

hush . ok i might of let it slip :/
