Now that the season is coming to a close, I'd just like to say "thanks" to all of the dive shops that make it possible to dive their local wrecks each summer. I appreciate all of the time, energy and money that is put into bouying each wreck so that we may have an awesome summer of diving.

Special thanks to the St. Ignace Dive shop. As always, you guys do a great job at keeping up with the tremendous traffic that comes through your area and replacing bouys as needed.

6 months to the start of the season!!!! (I don't count ice diving... It's a dive, but that's about it - ha ha)

Thanks Dokie and dab, I'll forward your thanks to Larry M. at Straits Scuba. The Straits Preserve was able to raise enough money this year with the treasure hunt, t-shirt sales and a very generous donation from Larry M. and others to buy some more buoys (to replace the ones that we lost) and some new line. A friend of the Preserve donated a bunch of shackles and other hardware, and that certainly helped.

On a related note, we pulled all of the lines and buoys from the wrecks in the Straits Preserve yesterday. There is a line remaining on the stern of the Cedarville. I think this was placed by Greg Such @ Shipwreck Adventures in the spring (thanks Greg). We're curious and hopeful that it will survive the winter. If it does, we'll put a small line and float on the others next fall, to make looking/marking them in the spring easier.

Be safe, Doug

Ah oh, I hope no one is boating around the Straits looking for buoys, that aren't there, on this beautiful weekend. If so, sorry.

I would be surprised if you don't find it in good shape. I've been on several wrecks this summer with similar sub-floats and all have survived well. The key seem to be having them at the right depth and about 1/3rd to 11/4 full of air. Too much air and the handles tend to blow off. The sub-floats on the Gunilda has lasted several years. The stern float is at 20' and pretty easy to spot from the surface and the bow float is at 30' and difficult to spot.
