So, Subsurface is a free (open source) dive planner and dive log. If I remember correctly it was coded, in part, by Linus Torvald, creator of the Linux kernel.

Anyway, it has great features as a dive log and as a dive planner so I encourage you to check it out. Again, this is free software, so don't think that I'm getting paid to write this thread or something. In fact, that's not even what the thread is about.

I was sitting here wondering how much time I've spent underwater, and then it occurred to me that this great piece of software, programmed and maintained by divers, may have a feature to total it up. And sure enough, it does.

Looking at my yearly stats, I've spent over 3 full days underwater at this point. Unfortunately, I didn't start using my Shearwater Petrel until after I had been a diver for a while, so I'm missing about a third of my dives. But I guess I just wanted to post here and say thanks to the guy(s) who code(s) Subsurface for making such a useful dive planner and log.

I've been using Subsurface for a while now. Absolutely love it. I was even able to download my first several dives from my old Suunto Gekko which won't even download to the Suunto software. There is a mobile app that is a companion to the PC version and will sync with it. You can even get your dive site co-ordinates with the mobile app.

I didn't even think of 3rd party dive computer logging apps. I primarily use Linux so a Linux app that supports the Zoop is great!

Thanks for posting, I'll download this tonight.

This is in basic scuba discussions so I don't know if technical divers will stumble upon it, but subsurface is an amazing program that is offered for free that offers full decompression diving planning. I have been playing with it/testing it out for a couple of months and comparing it to MultiDeco and the plans it pumps out if you set the settings the same in both programs are comparable and reliable. Also, subsurface is visually more appealing and I like how all the info is laid out compared to MultiDeco.

The fact that a completely free program offers the same features/deco planning as a $70-90 program is awesome. People should definitely check it out. Although it appears to be marketed as more of a dive "logger," if you go into plan mode it's a full deco dive planner and will give you complete decompression schedules for both VPM with whatever conservatism level you want and buhlmann GF.
