I live on Phuket and work as a Freelance Instructor when I am at home (currently in Saudi Arabia, another story). There are an awful lot of dive schools to choose from and recommendation is really the only way to choose as the staff in most centres changes on an almost weekly basis.

I would recommend Sunrise Divers in Karon or Dive The World in Patong, both of these operations try wherever possible to use staff who hold Thai work permits, the same cannot be said for a high proportion of the other outfits.

PM me if you need any further info.

i did my open water in koh nang yuan (just off koh tao) and it went very nice.

it's quiet, much more than koh tao, because there's only one resort on the island, altough a lot of the koh tao operations head to nang yuan for the diving, and the dive shop is very well run.

if you want something else to do, beside taking the course, this is not the place for you. you're stranded on the place. for me this worked perfectly.
