Thanks for sharing the links. Lots of good information.
Maybe we can get together some time and do some diving and hunting.
I sent a request to PADI dive shop that offers underwater hunting. Waiting to hear when the next class is. I will join in that class to gain some additional knowledge.

I was reading up on Texas regs for spearfishing.
This came from Texas Parks & Wildlife.

Non-game Fish: All species not listed as game fish except endangered and threatened fish which are defined and regulated under separate rules.

So does that mean Red Snapper & Sea Bass are off limits?

Snapper are a non-game fish so you can shoot them year round in Texas waters which are out to 9 miles. That rule and list of fish are for Texas waters only. Once you are out 9 miles you are in federal waters so the rules change. You can even shoot the fish on that list. In federal water there are only a few fish you can shoot Jewfish, red drum and red snapper during the closer season. There might be a few more but those are the ones that come to mind.

Dutchman,
I am not sure how much a Dallas dive shop is into spearfishing. I am going to suggest that you find a dive shop closer to the Gulf. That way you can set up to take the course and dive all in the same weekend.

I have e-mailed and call the Hydro Sports scuba in Lake Jackson as you suggested.
Waiting for someone to return my call or e-mail on classes.

Hi,

Mike in San Antonio here.

I hunt some in local lakes, but the good hunting is on rig trips.

We go on trips out of Port Aransas. Lately we have been going out with Captian Mike Miglini on his boat the Orion. He sure does run a good trip and he is a tournament spearfisher as are some of the others who go with him. They take good care of the divers and the fish shooting is always good.

Also been out with Capt. Carl Janisek ( -10 spelling), he is an avid spear fisher but has moved to Florida, I think.

We used to go on the Shark Hunter Express, good shooting with those guys.

Mike, sounds like we all need to plan a trip out to the rigs on one of these charters. Can you share some contact information and cost? Are these day trips or weekend?
Thanks

I would be interested in spearing from a charter out of Port A. I am sure I could probably also talk my dad into going. Most of my gulf dives have been off of private boats but can be nice to let someone else worry about running the boat.

I am not sure about anyone else but I would like to try spearing on the Mansfield Jetties.
