The lack of an on/off switch on the housing is a deal breaker for me.

Hmm... so I'm curious as to what the issue is...
..not trying to be a smart arse here ;-))
just trying to see where the issue is.

If the camera goes off - monitor off, sleep mode, in whatever 5min?? (just guessing here) then are you thinking that because you can't turn it off after the dive #1 and back on for dive #2 and same for Dive #3? that it'll be drained by then??? and will then have to open the case after dive 2 or ??

Thanx, just wondering... and again, just asking in a friendly way... ;-))

thanx much...

Can anyone verify if these work together??

For sure, the Tetra/L&M sell their own wide & macro lenses for the Tetra housing, but can we use the INON Wide & Macro lenses instead??

Would esp. love to hear from users with this equipement....Tahnks....

The tetra does NOT come with a threaded port, it is available as an option. Or can sometime be found used for around $200-250, which is the cheapest way to go. Then buy Inon lenses. Ryan at Reef Photo & Video has one used, in stock as of a day or two ago.
With the Tetra housing, you will need a TYPE 1 lens, not a type 2 like the Oly PT-15 uses. The ring on Inon lenses are changeable to make them type 1 to type 2 or vise-versa. Type 1 and type2 are the same lens except for the ring which is added to the lens to screw onto 67mm. On one the lens sticks out past the threads (Type 1), to other (type 2) the threads are flush with the back of the lens. On the tetra, Type 2 lens will screw onto the housing, but it will give you some problems. A type 1 lens will NOT screw onto the PT-15 housing.
Your Inon macro lenses are not a problem, they will screw right on for use with the tetra, if you have the optional port with threads.

The tetra does not have the feature Ike has concerning holding down the buttons. You can however use your thumb to turn the rear dial on the camera. In-fact, one full pull with the thumb only changes one step at a time, so you can change shutter speed, or F stops with out looking to see where you are. I love the way they geared in that aspect.

The tetra 5050 does not have a on\off switch. The camera goes to sleep with no problems, and saves the power of the batteries. However, if you let it sleep for more than 4 hours, the camera does turn itself off, which does require you to open the housing, and turn the camera off.....then back on. I've never had the happen, as I put everything together the night before, and seal it just before I leave my A\C room, on the way to the dive boat.

Hope this helps some. ;)

Yes. The camera draws power in "sleep" mode. It may not be much, but it will shorten the available battery time. If you seal the camera in the housing and wait too long before using it, it will turn itself off and the housing will have to be opened to turn the camera back on.

Ahh-soo... Ok, that explains it...
Thanx much... wasn't aware (or didn't really think about it?) that eventually it would shut off 100%..
Still amazed that they would, or more to the point - would NOT, put an on/off switch..
What "won't" they think of next...

Thanx much for clarifying it.... ;)

Wow everyone, great posts...just what I needed to know too!

Very disappointed in L&M for some of the choices they've made.
> no power switch....
- if it could be woken up from sleep after 4 hrs it would still be okay
- but NEEDING to crack the case just coz of this...what an oversight!!

> 'Optional' 67mm screw-on port
- pity! I've always seen the L&M housing as high end!
- what high end user wouldn't consider add-on lenses!!
~ that's what makes the 5050 such a great camera compared to dSLRs!!
- obviously just a ploy to sell more...but if ikelite & olympus have it standard!?!

1 last question then....if I have one of the L&M lenses infront, what kind of lense would this be for both the INON macro lense & the INON dome/WA lense to work w/ the L&M housing.....although w/o a on-off switch, i'm starting to reconsider - really a deal breaker! Maybe L&M'll build it into the existing 5050 Tetras & offer free parts & installation to it's users......
