Its a so called 3 inch focus ( just under 8 centimeters) It comes with a focus stick that you can practise with. Backscatter Videos
It has a bit difference focus depending on using Hero 3 or 3+. 3 is a bit longer than 3+.
But the best thing is to move the camera in and out to see the best focus in the LCD. The LCD is REQUIRED to use with this setup, to frame your shot.
 
hi, I used a Hero 3 BE, settings was 1080p@24 FPS, protune off, WB auto. (Recommended is 60 FPS) Lights: 2pcs. Xadventurer M2500 LED (chinese) set at lowest, about 1000 lumen. It was a sunny day, dephts from 8-23 meters.
It is also recommended with a tripod for macro shots, but I havent got that yet.
