Tell me you can about a Scout. Is it too light weight for warm water Mexico dives? And could I use it in cold water dives with a 7 mil wetsuit? I thought I was pretty set on a Zeagle Brigade but wonder about the Scout.

Being a light weight type BCD does it feel cheap if I could use that word? I would love to hear what users are saying. Thanks!

I have used a Zeagle Scout and I think it is a great lightweight BC. It packs up small and is lightweight. It is a bit thinner material then the brigade but it holds up well. Keep in mind it does not have ditch-able weights - but no big deal to me. Cold water dives might be pushing it depending on you're ballast requirements - since it only has a 24lb bladder. But for a war water travel BC - for the value it is hard to be beat.

Nitrowill,

This Bd is weight integrated isn't it? And how do you ditch the weights if you had to?

It has twim weight pockets on the tank straps that are technically ditchable. The pockets on the sides are NOT ditchable and can only be opened via zipper. I used weights in there - just know you cant ditch them too quickly and that if you plan on storing anything in the pockets you should get a thigh pocket or similar.

I don't know about the old versions, but for at least the past two years the Scout has had ditchable weight pockets next to the tank straps.

I just bought a rental Scout from my LDS for my wife. She was the only one that ever rented it since it is a XS and they sold it to me for a great price. I like it for the simplicity and my wife likes it for that same reason. I rented a Ranger a few times and every time I put it on I felt like an octopus was attacking me from behind. So, yeah, it is a no frills BC.

I'm not sure why you'd want a heavy-weight BC in warm water. Chances are you'd not have a very thick wetsuit (or any at all) so there wouldn't be much bouyancy to counteract. I believe the max amount of lead you can put in it is 10lbs so that may not be enough for a 7 mil suit. Of course, you can add a bit more weight in other ways though.

Big A,

I simply wear a weight belt with my Scout. I had ST sell me a 35# wing instead of the 24# that comes standard, since I dive with a 7 mm john/jacket. The 35# wing doesn't seem all that much bigger to me than the 24# - I got to see them both but not actually side by side.

No, it doesn't feel "cheap" in any way.
