Hi. After 20 years dry (kids, career), I'm back in the water. I will look at upgrading all my gauges but for now, I have a Tekna wrist gauge which, just for the heck of it, I'd like to replace the battery and see if it still works! Any help figuring out how to open this one? Bezel turns but doesn't open anything. Three-hole item on the bottom just opened to access the rubber diaphragm. Haven't tried anything tougher than that; don't want to wreck the gauge. Any thoughts, suggestions are appreciated. It's amazing to be back in the water again!! :)

Thanks, folks. Tom

Tekna is gone for 40+ years.

Any money spent is money lost IMHO.

The unit is a Tekna "digital dive timer" which can be located on page 14 of the Tekna 1984 catalog.
There were two models 1) the wrist mounted model and 2) the modular model which was designed to be mounted in a console, The model displayed is the latter the "modular model"

Both models were activated at 5 feet and displayed digitally the bottom time and after surfacing the surface interval - A huge step forward in 1984

As my fellow poster @mdb stated it was 40 years old- missed it by a few years - but certainly a relic -- It is not repairable-- time to hang it up or donate to a dive museum- no matter what your choice do not toss -

These little obscure items which have little value represent a moment in the progression of the development of diving are becoming increasingly scarce - what ever you do don't toss

Thanks for sharing

The battery is visible on the right side of the photo above. You can cut a hole in the back to swap batteries.

The unit I tried this on did not fire up afterwards. I guessed the electronics had expired. So I tossed it. Getting a pressure proof seal afterwards will likely be a challenge. I could not figure out any way to disassemble the unit without cutting through the black bezel and then the clear housing. So I just cut a hole through the clear housing around the battery.

It isn't even worth typing up a post about it.
As noted above these are great examples of early stage (now called "vintage") diving electronics. I applaud anyone that is capable of keeping them working.

I was unhappy that my attempt to resurrect my Tekna "gem" failed so badly. As a consolation I keep a drawer full of old Sherwood bottom timers and Uwatec Aladins about the house. I even dive with them...

Wow, folks, thanks for the volume and variety of replies!! I have no intention of spending a dime on it. I know it's ancient and am just curious if it would still fire up. I've upgraded my other gauges and so on to ensure I'm safe underwater and will continue on that path.

As for the gauge, I'm not a collector anymore; found SO much stuff in my "Scuba" boxes and bags in the crawlspace. If any of you want it, first come first served! Send me an address and it's yours - happy early birthday!! :)
