tekna dive timer

hi,
i'm new to the forum and new to the sport. i need some help replacing the battery in an 80's vintage tekna dive timer/depth gauge. i got it out of the console ok, but i can't seem to get it apart, is there a trick ? i really don't want to break the thing if i can help it....

My wife and I both had Tekna DIGITAL dive timers and they were great. After we got dive computers we kept them to use as back up timers. Finally had to get rid of them because we couldn't find anyone to replace the batteries.

The Tekna dive timer was required to be sent back to the factory for battery replacement where they broke and then replaced the case in the process.

I liked my dive timer a lot and when unable to return it for a new battery, I did a little surgery on mine by cutting a hole over the battery. I then replaced it, covered the battery with a small piece of plastic wrap and filled in the hole with a non conductive silicone adhesive. I got a few more years of use out of it but removing the silicone adhesive to repeat the process is not real appealing.

I had one, never had much luck with it .. Had to keep sending it back to the factory..

I just started diving and got a second-hand set of tekna gauges in a package deal of gear. The battery in the timer was dead and I did the operation on the back of the case. I figured it was useless as-is anyway, so what harm could I do to it? I just cut the back of the case open with a knife (I'd recommend an x-acto or scalpel, but I didn't have anything better), changed the battery, and gonna close it up with aquaseal.

My first console set was the Tekna with the timer.
I LOVED THOSE GAUGES!
I also loved the little dagger knife on the back for spearfishing.
Then I moved on to computers.
It was really aggravating having to send the little thing back every 2 years or so for a new battery.
