Although not a tekky myself I'm seriously considering buying a tek BCD.
Thing is that it seems to be much more comfy and less cumbersome than the usual rec ones.I mean, what do I need those large pockets for?I never happen to carry nothing more than a spare mask and a small torch in them.Having the air bladder in the back and only the harness where I can add just the pockets I actually need for a given dive seems to me a much more practical option. Also having a bladder with more lifting power doesn't sound bad at all, given that I very often dive deep,in currentswept sites(I might incour in one of those infamous downward ones,God forbid!) and sometimes I carry a 3 or 5lt.nitrox tank for deco.
What do you think:huh:

You want to minimize the lift of the wing (I assume you are refering to a bp/w setup -alot of mfgrs have what they call "tek" BC's, this is just a marketing term and the primary thing you see out there are bp/w or things like the Dive-Rite Transpac (not nearly as popular)). Having an oversized wing (especially with a single tank) means you'll probably have excessive tacoing around the tank making it hard to dump air.

With a single tank, I use an 18# wing. If I were diving a single tank with a deco bottle, I'd probably want a 30# wing (generally the next size up). With double 104's (some of heavier tanks out there) and deco bottles/stages, a 60# wing would be plenty.

A tekky BC........???

Funny story for you........

Yesterday, we dove with 2 guy's who were vacationing in Florida. 12 divers aboard and these two were all decked out in their Halcyon DIR gear. Backplates, Small Canister lights, long hoses on the primarys, octo hanging under the chin, weight belts, snap hooks hanging everythere, jet fins, spring straps, lift bags, reels, little knives, all black masks, a computer on each wrist (2 computers each) and with a separate pressure guage. Get the picture? Tekky as all get out.

After the second dive and while headed back to the dock the guy sitting next to them asked "do you cave dive?" One of them replied, "no but were prepared for anykind of diving." I couldn't resist and asked, "how much line on that reel?" He said, with pride, "400 feet."

So, I guess there's nothing wrong with having gear that's ready for anything.

I have a Techni-Pro I'd be willing to sell... for the right price.

Thanks for the offer Rick,I'm sure the price is right but....to have it shipped to Italy I'm sure would be more expensive than the thing itself:365:

Where can I get an Techni-Pro? Can I get one with the extra 25 d-rings?

Diving with 2 computers is not DIR. It's more like the way I dive, except I have only 250 feet of line on my reel. I don't see the problem with their gear.

I didn't think 2 puters was DIR. In fact, one of the 2 was a wireless VTPro, hardly DIR. It was just funny seeing their rigs with their plate pads with "DIR Equipment" on the Halcyon logo. I think I was just making lite of the these guys all dressed for tech but not tech in 'em.

Surely you've run across some pretenders yourself. I guess it was pretty shallow of me to post that.

No, I actually don't think it was shallow. :)
There are people out there who think the equipment makes them DIR...apparently these are those type.

Yes ... but I don't judge 'em based on their eqiupment.

Some folks just like fancy toys ... ;)

Did they know how to dive?
