Greetings ScubaBoard

I've been lurking on ScubaBoard for quite some time, figured it was time to join.

If your in, or coming to Germany, lets dive.

trange, welcome to ScubaBoard. . . I'm not planning any diving trips to your area, but there is a place for you to find someone who is. . . Click on the "Forums" button on the top of each page, scroll way down the list of topics to "Regional Travel and Dive Clubs" Scroll down till you find the area for Europe, In some areas of the world individual lakes, or destinations will have someone there right now describing the diving. Also, if you are dreaming of a warm water tropical destination, when it's cold outside and the snow has been shoveled, read the topics for tropical resorts like Cozumel, Mexico. The colder we are in the winter, the more divers there will complain about the warmth, and beaches, and wonderful diving. . .

Another favorite wintertime activity is scrolling through the pictures in the photo gallery.

Ted,

Iim in Ansbach and dive quite often in Austria.

I've done quite a bit of diving in Austria. Attersee, Blindsee, Urisee (do ice diving there). I love the mountain lakes. Do you do any trips around Europe. We are heading off to Giglio, Italy on 16 Oct.

Hi Ted,

There are tons of lakes to dive around Germany. It is also really easy to hop a flight to somewhere warmer. I have been to Marseille for some great Wreck diving and was just in the Grand Canaries in May. It is easy to hook up with clubs and excusions to Egypt and Greece too. I am a bit further north and do a lot of diving in the Netherlands. If you are ever up this way, give me a shout and we'll meet up!

Hi, I am new to the forum and diving as well.
You are not far from Siegburg near Bonn and if you get severe withdrawal symptoms you can try out the Dive4Life Indoor dive centre, its 20 m deep, has some underwater decoration and with a bit of imagination you would think you are diving some sunken city on the Mediterranean ...... well almost.

Actually, I do dive here in Germany. Locally, our best lakes are along the Rhein between Spyer and Karlsruhe. Use to have a friend down in the Freiburg area, the are many great lakes there. Looking at your profile, I can whole heartedly agree with how you've started. The shop I work out of has divers from all over. Our annual Oct trip to Giglio, Italy always consists of diverse groups. The year there will be Germans, Americans, Dutch, and Russians. Always a great time. We also have a trip to Egypt Nov/Dec time frame. If your interested in joining such a trip, look up Easy Dive in Ramstein-Miesenbach.

@DiverLux: Siegburg sounds interesting, I hadn't heard about it yet. It may require some imagination, but not having a dry suit, it would at least take care of the winter-fix without a trip to warmer waters!

@Ted: I will definitely check out the dive shop. I have been wanting to go to Egypt to dive (and of course to see the county, but seriously we all know holiday revolves around diving first). Thanks for suggesting it. Not having a buddy to dive with makes going on trips to dive a little harder, but going in a group definitely solves that problem.

Diving in the warm and crystal clear waters of Red-Sea will be hard to beat and once you have done that you will find it difficult to go somewhere else. Of course the die-hard will dive anywhere.

I go alone on my trips, pre-book (without paying) into a dive centre beforehand, and they have always been able to team me up. Being 62 and beginner I often get the bonus of a guide from the dive centre for the tough dives like Ras Mohammed at no extra cost.

TUI.com Last Minute have decent packages (flight, hotel, transfer, visa and train to airport included) and often you can pre-book (and pre-pay which is not so good) your dives. April-May is a good time with package prices as low as 400 € out of DUS.

Working on a trip to Dahab, R-S. for the coming week.
