To the OP:

I think a BP/W can be technical but it can also be used purely recreational. Tons of threads on the jacket vs BP/W thing.

In terms of your question: The BP/W is generally a very sturdy and modular kit. That means it would physically hold up to doubles and/or slung stage bottles. The D rings are very sturdy and can be easily added/moved. It can physically mount a set of doubles. The wing size can change with your needs (i.e., a single al 80 in the tropics is different than twin steel 120s). To do this, you only buy the new wing not the only kit...
 
If you are looking to go down the trimix side of technical diving go straight for a rebreather. It may be more expensive at the start, however in the long run it may work out cheaper if you do a lot of diving on trimix.
