Hi,

I've been diving since 21 years but, I would say, six last ones really seriously (entered tech dive world).

I'm diving pretty often (about once a week in the cold Swiss lakes).

Next month I'm going, with my family, to Sharm and I wanted to do two or three tech dives (max allowed depth 60m - trimix plus 50 and 100% deco on OC) - would be very grateful for some ideas.

Other possibility, is to take a cab and go to Dahab ... is it really worth it? I really don't know anything about those sites (apart blue hole) ... I've tried to find some info here but for the moment not very successful.

Thanks a lot for your help,

Ivan

Diving at 60m, trimix and 100% O2 will depend on the dive center. You will find most of the tek dive centers of the region in Dahab.

There are quite a few tech spots (centers and dives) in sharm as well; but things tend to be boat based

Dahab is the easier solution, you can’t really just grab a cab and go to dahab (well you can, but that’s not worth it in that way)
Reach out to a tek dive center (most of Dahab) and talk to them about what dive you’d wanna do (your limits allow you the Blue hole arch, the Canyon penetration (note the Deep Exit in the map at the bottom) — both beautiful dives with about 30min deco that I highly recommend) and they should arrange the day/guide/permits (you need permits for Blue hole area, also technical dives should be “preapproved” by the shop tech manager) and also arranging a pickup/drop off from/to Sharm

Some more options for dive centers that I can personally vouch for on the tek diving front:
- Shams
- Planet Divers
- ScubaSeekers
- H2O divers
- Sly dive

Dive sites in Dahab are mostly “area” reefs that you can take from their rec to technical depths,
Lighthouse is the town center one (and where most OW classes are made; but once you step in deeper it’s quite amazing actually

There is also “The bridge”, this one is close to Lighthouse and is a house reef for training at ScubaSeekers, mostly tech trainings; again once you ramp down things are pretty ; effectively this is just a different entry for lighthouse

Islands is one dive site that isn’t really worth any tech diving, but my favorite reef in dahab, so colorful; it’s part of the Lagoon(a) area

There’s the south trilogy (imagine the blue hole cafe area but in the south side), that has 3 sites: Golden Blocks, Caves, and Three pools; cool reefs over there; surge entry at Caves

Sadly I can’t offer you better quality maps (nor the site descriptions that are in txt) (picture compression on scubaboard) as I have them in book format; but if you google image search for Dahab dive maps you can find bunch of them digitally

LMK of I can help with any details or recommendations

But most almost all sites are pretty in their way, so lot’s of colors to look at while you are on DECO

My vote for <60m (80-120m runtime) dives in Dahab is:
- Arch (Blue hole), I saw a pack of Tuna once we crossed the Arch, and dolphins while exiting from outside the wall (dolphins are more of a summer thing, so low odds) (this dive is the reason I decided to get certified as a OW diver, finally did it last year)
-Canyon, flat slope entry till 15m, cayon hole drops to 32, penetration under the canyon till 47-53m (tide depending depth); exit by the outer wall, watch octopi during deco at the 21-6m depth, you really don’t feel the deco wait the entire dive (my absolute favorite actually, always do it when I am in Dahab)
- Any other spot would work more or less the same, Lighthouse or Goldenblock are the ones I did on a technical level, I can recommend Lighhouse more because it’s an “easier” dive and there’s a practice area (hoops, passages.. at the shallower part) so it can also be a good check dive; on the deeper end it has cool coral structures and even huge Napoleon fish, and if you’re very lucky Rays

I just finished diving in Dahab. My advice? Go to Scuba Seekers. Although I myself don't dive tech, my understanding is that they are the premier tech dive shop. I can vouch that I was treated superbly by them. Every dive I had with them as a recreational diver was private-it just ended up that way. I had the same DM, who was amazing. I came to Dahab just to dive with her. And it was worth it!!!

Maybe one final note, if you would rather dive wrecks them stick with Sharm — none in Dahab

Every dive around Sinai can be done as a technical dive. My preference is going from Sharm with day boats and a tec dive. Emperor Divers offers that. I would also recommend diving the Thistlegorm — as a technical diver you can do a 3h single dive while the rest of the boat does 2 rec dives and surface interval.
