Jackie,
Do you know if this means that VaScuba will take SDI/TDI VIP stickers if the tanks aren't cleaned on the premisses? Or will VaScuba let us use their clean room even though we're not employees?

I think this is great to have another option other than PSI and kudos to VaScuba for doing these classes as I haven't really seen them offered by other shops. But I'm also wondering what the benefits are, if any, over the PSI course.

If you or MrPersonality could let me know that would be great. I can't make the 24th (monday), but if there is another offering and there are benefits over PSI, I would definitely consider this.

Thanks,
Chris

We offer this class and the 5 day one in the winter that includes reg repair and blending every year. The classes are designed for people that are or want to work in the dive industry so they will have credentials and the skill to perform these tasks. It is often taken by divers who are not working in the industry to increase their knowledge in the sport.
Yes we used to offer our facilities to students so they can clean thier personal tanks and all we charged was parts and shop supplies for the chemicals etc. Unfortunatly this practice was abused by a few. Still,we would rather fill O2 tanks that we know have been cleaned properly with the right equipment so we are discussing a way to modify the policy where the shop wont get screwed and students can still bring in thier tanks to clean. One of the big issues was people coming in during peak season while classes are coming and going and we are busy, wanting to clean 10 or 12 tanks... we just dont have free staff to help and the time and space for this. If we could find a way that this is only done in the winter months and address the other issues I would be up for reinstating this policy! We would have to come up with some reduced cleaning fee or something as the $4.00 dollars a tank wasn't covering the materials and gasses etc used in the process. We will have something decided soon.

Thanks. That would be a nice benefit to have in a dive shop. I hope you all can figure out a way to open the shop back up for cleaning and not have people take advantage of it. I guess the good part is that there is that many people around here who dive that way. I thought the community of between-rec-and-tec or tec divers was smaller. Good stuff.

Take care,
Chris
