I just got a used US Divers Conshelf VI (I cant be sure of the version, but I am pretty sure it is a VI) and it has a tapered HP port. What do I do for a pressure gauge? Is there an adapter I can buy or a hose made for this port?

If it has a tapered port it's been modified as Graeme says.

I don't think it was tapped. It looks like it came that way from the factory.

That does not look like a tapered thread to me, it looks like a recessed standard fitting. Try screwing in a LP hose (don't pressurize it unless you want some excitement in your life) and if it fits, you need either a 3/8" to 7/16" adapter or a special HP hose with a 3/8' fitting. I'm assuming you tried a standard 7/16" HP hose fitting and it would not go in.

I tried using an adapter at the shop when we were rebuilding it (reg repair class). The original HP hose and an adapter to 7/16ths HP button gauge both leaked air. How tight should this have to be to seal? This was the first time that the guy had ever seen a port like that. The shoulder of the hose fitting seems to be hitting the outer edge of the taper before getting anywhere near sealing. I can try to take a pic of the adapter almost bottomed out to give a better idea of how wide the outer part of the taper is.

Agreed. Tapped pipe threads were field mods and would not have been re-chromed. Is that black arc at the bottom in this photo a shadow or an O-ring? The detail at the top of the thread looks pretty large for a standard O-ring on an SPG.

At the bottom is a shadow. I am wondering if I "need" to modify the adapter to fit into the port.
