This post is just to see what people prefer and why to help out other newbie divers like myself see why people choose certain things for that particular reason.
that is all

The poll is extremely limited in choices. A more complete selection would tell you what people really like.

I like HP120's but they are not on your list so.......

Or I can always loan you one of my spare CCRs.

Thanks, but I'm not sure I know you well enough to share "lung butter" with yet. :rofl3:

I agree. I have twin sets of LP85's & LP95's. The 85's were great "training wheel" tanks to learn to dive doubles on, being they are lighter & just generally easier to manipulate. I now mostly use my 95's & will probably be selling the 85's very soon.

I have BM double LP104's, SM double LP95's, HP130, LP108, AL80, 2 AL40's, AL63, Al30 and an old steel 72 that failed to pass viz last time. I use all except the AL63 and my daughter dives that sometimes. I'm gonna trade or sell the HP130 for another LP108.

They all have specific applications. If I had to own just one tank for single diving it would be the LP108. Holds decent gas and trims very nicely for me.

Thanks Cave Diver. It has been hours since you posted this but I still can't get this image out of my head :vomit: :rofl3:

Well, back on topic, I agree that the poll is fairly limited. I remembered this post The Dive Matrix Forums - View Single Post - Calculating Water Capacity of US cylinders on another forum that matched up the US capacities with litres (which I can understand so just thought I'd post it for other people who might use Ls to measure tank size) and have figured out my tanks are equivalent to HP80 (10.5L one) and HP100 (12.2L) approximately and the HP80 does me for nearly all dives (I tend to dive mostly below 30m and air rarely ends my dives with either tank).

108's, 108's, 108's.......... As someone mentioned before, with a "good fill" im carrying close to 300 cuft of gas. Its nice to have the available gas for the type of diving I perfer to do... Even when not carrying out a technical dive I still perfer to dive my doubled 108's for the following reasons:

(NOTE: THE FOLLOWING REASONS ARE MY PERSONAL RESAONS)

  • I enjoy the way doubles feel on my back, trim, stable and what I am used to...
  • Since I carry out technical dives, why not train in what i am going to be wearing on the deeper, longer dives?
  • At one time I owned 14 tanks, sold all the single hp tanks I owned, and now only have LP tanks.
  • The ability to get a full fill, the ability to overfill if you choose, in my mind, far out weigh the negatives (lp are 8" compared to HP 7.25" in diamter) and the few pounds more negative on the surface.
  • If you have to wear weight when diving a single hp tank, why not dive a set of lp doubles with no weight???? I personaly have never sucked a breath of fresh air out of a pound of lead. The extra lp 108 gives me about 150 cuft of fresh air...

Now I realize that I went a little further into why LP vs HP and added doubles into the mix, but since I started diving doubles, I will NOT be diving a single tank, HP or LP for that matter, just doesnt make sense, No redundancy. Of course the exception is when traveling and single tanks are the only thing available, But there are ways around this as well.

Good luck with whatever you choose. Just remeber, its your cash, your opinon and your life that matter in the end.

OMG.

That conjures up images that will haunt me forever.

I like the HP100. I cannot get a cave fill in my area, even if I wanted to. The HP100 has the same diameter as an AL80. Most the dive boats use bungee cords but for the few that have slots the 7.25" of the HP100 works.

I cold water dive and with all my protection I have to wear a lot of weight. Steel works better than AL80 because I can take some weight off my belt.

If I get a fill from a shop that only fills to 3000 PSI, I still have more than the AL80s they usually fill.
