Um, no. If you don’t want to carry tanks, get a cart and roll them around.

That handle thing is crazy. Didn’t know such things even existed. How much were they?
i heft them up into my arms and carry them across my chest. works well when bringing from car to boat and boat to car and shop to car and car to shore and- well, you get the idea, short distances!

A tank handle is really convenient on the shore. Underwater it has
- a benefit: one can grab a diver by the tank handle and help them achieve trim and/or buoyancy and/or rescue them
- a drawback: if one gets entangled in a fishing net, then that handle is an extra and unwanted complication.

Things are never simple.

I'd be worried about them letting go ... Hope they are securely attached.

there was a comment made by the op about whether or not there were any documented cases of dive incidents as a direct result of using these handles.

i personally believe the question is not relavent, although i understand why it might be asked.

the real point is that it is clearly an added piece of equipment that is completely unecessary.

not only have tanks been carried using various methods for decades without any issue, but this is an added cost that in not needed. if the handle was easy to attach and remove, maybe some people might find them useful?

perhaps when only diving in open water it may never cause any problem for the diver whatsoever. but it is still an added gadjet that is not required. i could put sleigh bells around my neck and never experience a problem from them being there, but that does not justify having them. even if it is christmas. :)

it should also go without saying that something like this should never be used if the diver was ever to do any type of overhead diving (wreck, cavern, cave, ice etc). i would be surprised if any shop / instructor would even allow them in the water with it attached in these cases.

Perhaps all you critics have never seen one of these handles. When not being used they fold down flush with the tank are are much less of an entanglement hazard than the valve and regulator. They are helpful to people with small hands or short arms. They are only made for steel tanks with narrow necks, as far as I know. Unnecessary? Perhaps. Useful? Sometimes. Dangerous? No.

good to know

Have a handle on a tank I have because if the weight. Its a Keiser 120. Its heavy as all get up.

Weird. Why a handle?
Years ago most tanks came with tank handles, they were called J valves, I still use them for that reason.

I like using handles better than using the valves, however when I tried similar handles to the OP I found no benefit over using the valve.
The folding ones are just not hand-friendly for me. Something like the picture bellow is what I like.

Obviously a handle isn't necessary to move tanks around but I rather have them, than not have them. There's many things I don't need but I like to have.
