Tank band on Aeris EX100

Hi all,

I just recently purchased the Aeris EX100 bcd and I'm largely happy with it, but I'd prefer to have a stainless steel cam latch tank strap on it rather than the plastic threaded one that came with it. When I rented gear previously, it always had a steel tank latch (which I was comfortable with) and none of this threading misery. So basically just wondering if it's possible to remove the current tank strap and replace it with a steel latch style tank strap like this? Or are the tank straps on the bcd not designed to be removed? They'd have to be though, right? Because if they broke under normal use they'd need to be replaceable, right? Basically just want to confirm before I go off and buy another strap! May sound silly, but this is the first set of gear I've owned and this minor thing would make me a much happier diver!

Hi,

Your BCD plastic buckle is fine. They have been used for about 30 years in the industry and I have seen only a few break. That is after 27 years and over 7000 students that I have been given the pleasure to teach. Also as a Customer Service Technical Service employee at several leading manufactures I can count all the broken plastic ones on two hands. If you must have one XS Scuba has a stainless steel band that can be purchased from Leisure Pro SKU: XSSTBCB it's a pair, but you will never need to buy one again. A Plastic replacement strap SKU: AQUTBS is much cheaper if you feel you need one in your Save-A-Dive Kit. All Nylon bands are replaceable just remember how it was threaded into the BCD when you take off the one you want to replace. Draw a picture as you unthread it to make it easy to replace with new. I'm with Leisure on this one; the cams that came with your BCD are just fine. FWIW I have one of the original Aeris XTs that I bought new in 2003 & it's still going strong.

If fact, after thousands of dives all over the world I'd be hard pressed to remember the last time someone's plastic cam broke.

I'm not worried about it breaking. I'm just finding it a hassle to get tight enough. When I was doing my certification and on the subsequent dives I've done in rental gear, they had these metal latches on the tank straps. A steel ring that you hooked over a steel latch that then closed to secure the tank. I found it really simple and was something that once you only ever had to adjust the once to fit the tank. Maybe it's just that this tank strap is new and inflexible, but I really did prefer the steel latch setup.
