I have the tools (mirror, lights, etc) ......from a previous life as an underpaid and underappreciated dive shop employee and instructor. So I VIP my own tanks and just buy the stickers on Amazon. I am 100% confident that my inspections are far more thorough than most of the minimum wage millennials that are performing VIP's in a lot of shops these days.

For sticker placement, I dive / hunt mostly solo here in the PAC Northwest so have Pony Tamer bands on all of my steel tanks and my 19cf and 13cf Pony......so I place the stickers so that they are not blocked by the Pony Tamer bands...

Cheers!

Magnificent round dive company and shop stickers that fit in the recess of aluminium tank bottoms
were once quite the rage

This should be a VID sticker… Not VIP. VERY IMPORTANT DIVER!

I personally like seeing the stickers, to find out where people are from. Plus, having it visible to other divers increases the likelihood someone will notice that my tank is out of viz!

Until seeing this thread, I've honestly never even given it any thought where the shop places the VIP sticker. Other than it's near the bottom just above the boot. I guess that's a safe spot to ensure that the tank straps don't leave the VIP unreadable before it's due for replacement. I've currently got 4 tanks, and never even look at the sticker unless I'm getting a fill and think it might be around time to get VIP done again.

In my hand so I can place them on myself after I clean the sticky mess left behind from the old sticker (cause I'm OCD like that) after that usually just above the boot.

I've never stuck my own vip sticker. Normally the LDS inspector does the sticking of things. It's on the backside more or less. Above the boots and below the neck.

I like necking, but that's not how the inspector who checks out my tanks will do it.

I don't think anyone is envious of a vip sticker. Others may be sympathetic, but not envious.
