Tahiti in July:What type of wet suit?

My wife and I will be traveling to Tahiti in July. We have two types of dive suits: very heavy neoprane for NY/NJ diving and skins that are OLD. Any suggestions? Try to be specific. Thanks

As thin as you are comfortable in. You really don't need anything. I was EXTREMELY burnt the first week of my trip, so I only wore a bathing suit and a t-shirt and was completely fine, there is no way you will get cold there. If you feel like you want some light protection get a Microprene or a new skin...they're pretty cheap.

There I was 80' UW in Bora Bora in a teashirt and trunks thinking to myself, if I was not UW I would be sweating. Leave the neoprene at home and go comando.

You could get a skin for protection, during the shark dives they want you on the bottom to make you less a target. Remember that the sharks are all trained to not eat the tourists as it's bad for business.

I'm wondering what is bringing you to Tahiti if you don't already know the answer to your own question. It appears you are in for opening a whole new realm of diving. In Tahiti, you can still see the boat from the bottom, let alone 20'.

I always wear a 3MM fullsuit. Tropics have little jellies, etc and currents can wash you around.

I was there last June and water temps were mid 80s. You could definitely get away with nothing more than a diveskin for sun protection. My wife and I dove a full 3mm suits and were very comfortable.

Ahhh......Bora Bora.

i was there two years ago...two years ago in time, another planet as far as location.

so wonderful.

Many many divers wore FULL 3mm suits.

i was sweating U/W and finally just dove in my thong(ha just kidding) my shorts and a t shirt.

How other people could stand the heat of a full suit, i don't know.

when i was diveing in the tropics i wore a 1mm shorty all i want was something to cover me from the jellyfish a bit.. its basicly one of the really cheap swiming ones.. i would just get a skin unless you get cold very easly.. ive been in 44 watter with 7mm and i was hot.. but im the kind of guy that will swim in the watter till i turn blue and still want to stay in..

I wish I were going with you. I miss Bora Bora and Moorea. When I was there I just wore a skin and was fine. You'll have a blast.

I was in Bora Bora last June (going back again this November for the 4th time). I always wear a full 3mm, but I sweat in that, so I flush water through it periodically. All coral diving and the passes can wash you pretty fast if the tide is right, so I would recommend some protection. Maybe a supersuit (double lycra with 1mm neo in between would probably be close to perfect there.

Thanks so much for the info. Can you give me any info concerning what you mean by Supersuit(double lycra with 1mm in between). I never heard of this. Can you give me any info as to where I can buy it. I live in New York City.
