I just bought a new reg set and was thinking that I should record the date somewhere to keep track on when service is due

I suppose i could always just plug it into google calendar, and maybe that's what I'll do, but I'm thinking it might be a good idea to somehow tag the "last service date" on the reg itself.
I've seen some use a write-on hose strain relief for that purpose.
Any other ideas

and a side question, it seems to me that number of dives on teh regs might be more pressing to trigger sevice than calendar dates...similar to miles instead of time for an oil change in your car.... but maybe not, Maybe it's more about time since the seat is always being pressed even in storage
so what is your trigger for service and how do you keep track of it?

I have a note in the cloud called Scuba Gear with the inventory, spares, service dates, and notes about setups (hose lengths, etc.). Also the short list of Wants, links for common online purchases, sources for hard-to-find things, o-ring identifiers/sources, etc., etc., etc.

TBH, at this point, I have a ton of various notes about diving stuff. Plans for future diving, notes/takeaways about classes. Future certifications/timelines/requirements and progress toward such. Packing checklists, gear position for airline luggage (49.9 lbs!). Math for optimal blending without a booster for my needs (much simplified since moving to CCR). Advanced gas planning (DPV, cave, safety factors with which i'm comfortable.) Searchable and basically impossible to lose. [Edit: 156 notes with the "diving" tag.]

I have an "on-condition" maintenance mindset. For regs, I check the IP a couple weeks before major trips, and service if out of spec. I have enough spares to deal with issues on local diving. Basing it on a calendar is not how I roll. Opinions will obviously vary.

If you log dives, the Garmin Dive app is quite nice. You don't need a Garmin device to use it, but (of course) a Garmin dive computer syncs data (including depth, deco, heart rate, et cetera) seamlessly into the App and web site. All are intuitive, polished, and can record many different types of data.

Garmin added a "Gear" feature to the app which allows all sorts of equipment specs to be recorded, including a "Last Service Date" field and a "Service Interval" field:

Although the app does not (yet) feature a "Service After n Dives or Interval, Whichever Comes First" field, it will send notifications after the specified "Service Interval":

I see no need to mark maintenance on the equipment itself, apart from the obvious VIP and Hydro dates on tanks which is already required.

I track all of my equipment maintenance in a spreadsheet. Cylinders, regulators and computers. I include past maintenance and the next planned service date. I have been tracking this in the same spreadsheet since 2007.

If you use a digital log, there should be a section for equipment/gear. Usually you have a record for each piece of equipment/gear and you can put the service dates in the notes for the regulator.
