tablet and pencil

what do ya'll use for a tablet and pencil to record your dive info? i have the tablet but i dont know what would be a good setup to attach it to my BCD.

I have a Subacqua plastic tablet with a an attached normal pencil and eraser in a piece of string. The tablet is attached with 30 cm of rubber band to the D-ring in the pocket on my right thigh of my drysuit. Works fine. 12,50 EUR in the LDS.

I prefer a wrist mounted slate mounted using bungee cord. Works well for me.

For a pencil, saw a neat thing on my last trip. I gather that wood pencils split after repeated soakings. I saw a lot of people using a type of mechanical pencil with their slates. This is not a complex, push to advance the lead, pencil, but a pencil with 11 or 12 interlocking plastic pieces with a lead in them. You pull a dull one out, push it in the back, and out comes a sharp one. (I hadn't seen these in years, but Target had 24 of them for $2.50). I think you could even cut the barrel down to end up with something more the size of a golf pencil.

I would guess that would corrode very quickly, but I wondered about the ones you twist. The other thing about the ones I described is that the leads are quite thick once you dull the point a bit and I think it is softer lead too (HB vs 3H or so in a typical mechanical pencil).

Yes. I used a #2 Bic 0.7mm mechanical pencils when nothing else was handy. You don't want to use them topside after being used in saltwater, since they'll dribble out black saltwater now and then. It was still working when I threw it away after about a month and about 25 dives. Most of the month I just left the notebook and pencil in the BCD pocket, and didn't rinse them other than when rinsing the whole BCD.

For taking notes underwater, I prefer the Durarite. It is more sturdy than "wetnotes" or the similar Rite in the Rain paper.

Either works good as a notebook to leave in your wet gearbag to take notes topside.

well i got the slate that came with my AOW padi kit thing. and i drilled a hole in a #2 pencil, maybe ill buy something more "professinal looking" on vacation.
