Hello All;

How was the dive this week-end...mine was good but the current made it challenging...anyway, there is no such a thing as a bad dive.

I have a question for you DIR divers....are swivels for second stages and SPG's considered DIR?

Thanks;

Nope. Swivels don't make much sense if you're using the long hose/backup on short hose configuration, if you're thinking of adding them for comfort/hose routing - they are just more things added pointlessly that need to be maintained/serviced and are additional failure points. The newer kinds of "comfort" swivel, such as those on Oceanic's Delta 4 and Atomic Aquatic's T2 and B2, also require a custom hose.

I am thinking about the 360 degrees swivels that come standard in most regulators and SPG's....still not DIR?

You mean the ones that are on the second stage/SPG end of standard hoses? Don't see how one could get around those...:D

All SPGs have a "spool" to connect the HP hose to the SPG. They still have what you're calling a swivel.

Icarusflies:
They come standard in the second stage but I have seen some SPGs (like dive rite) that come without it...they call it spools http://www.diveriteexpress.com/regs/img/rg27aslg.jpg

From Dive Rite Express website: "Naked SPGs now include the Spool to mate the hose swivel to the gauge. Our spool also includes the two oxygen compatible O-rings."

http://www.diveriteexpress.com/regs/spgsonly.shtml

In fact, the spool is referred to as "Spool w/ O-rings for SPG Swivel" (RG27AS) by Dive Rite Express.

OK so it is DIR, good deal....now, a little off topic. I see your are using a Uwatec Tec2G...do you like it?

Yes, so far. The gauge mode is excellent.
