I am looking to switch my primary 2nd stage reg (a Conshelf XIV) with the octo (a Conshelf 20). I've searched on the topic of attaching hoses to the 1st stage and the only caveats I come across is to not cross-thread or over-tighten. Before I start taking stuff apart and putting it back together I want to verify that there is nothing else I should be concerned about. Thanks in advance.

Hello Barry,

If you are changing out the hose and second stage together then, yes, that is pretty much all you have to do. You might want to lubricate the o-ring, but that is not absolutely necessary.

If you are removing the second stage from the end of the hose, care must be taken when removing and installing it because (if I am not mistaken) it is a plastic second stage. Do not just take a wrench and unscrew the hose as you may damage the plastic housing. Two wrenches are called for: one on the hose fitting and one on the air barrel or jam nut.

Good luck,

Couv

Thanks for the reply. I am not planning to touch the hose-to-2nd stage connections, just the hose-to-1st stage connections. If you do lube the o-ring, what lubricant should be used?

If you are just swapping ports on the same first stage that all you need to do, if you are swapping between different first stages or a second that has not been on that first stage a little tune up on the second stage may be needed. Lube- a tiny bit of silicone grease or Cristolube and spit will work if that is all you have. The main things are not to cross thread the hose or over tighten the connection.
