switching from film to digital underwater photography

I would like to start underwater photography with a digital camera ....any suggestions on which type to start looking at.....I don't want the most expensive however I don't want the cheapest........and while I'm at it I need to know what tupe of lighting to get as well......if I'm going to take pic then I need to be able to see the beauty of the colors from down below..........

Once you read that and have a think about things you should have a good starting point - then ask away as there is a ton of knowledge here
