Dismembered body found in the sea
A dismembered body has been found in a package, 14 meters below the water surface of the sea outside Strömstad, West Sweden.
The body was found by chance by a diver outside Saltö, near Strömstad, on Saturday evening. The diver thought the package looked suspicious and called the emergency services and coast guard. The package was taken to a morgue in Uddevalla and on Monday morning it was confirmed to contain a disjointed body, reports Göteborgs-Posten.
The age and the sex of the deceased person are not known at this stage. It is also not known how long the body has been in the water.
The police have launched a preliminary investigation into murder.
We have been out with the coast guard in the area to look for evidence. We will also go out and knock on doors on the islands outside Strömstad to get tips. In the meantime, the forensic technicians will work with the findings in the package. A forensic examination will be carried out in Gothenburg on Wednesday, which we hope will clarify a few things. Of course we also want people to contact us if they have seen anything, there may have been a boat involved for example, said Thord Haraldsson from the County Police, to Göteborgs-Posten.
