Why does it need to be serviced by a local technician? Is it currently operating like it supposed to?

It's working like it should. No problems at all.

But it's like any used scuba equipment that you buy - use at your own risk if you choose to take it out without getting it serviced or having it checked out on your end. It leaves my hands, and you're responsible for your own safety, not me.

How old is the unit? Bought three years ago.
