Hi all fellow divers,

I am at a crossroads here deciding on whether to get the Suunto Stinger or Vyper? I do not need AI at the moment and also would like to keep my budget down but any recommendations others than these 2 computers are welcome.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. :10:

I looked at a lot of computers and decided on the Vyper. Taking it for its first swim Saturday. Do a search on 'Vyper" and you will find many threads.

You might also like to look at the new Dive Rite nitek duo (apeks quantum/Tusa 700), which has similar capabilities to the vytec, but costs (at least in the uk) a little less than the vyper. I'm getting a couple of them, and they were discussed a week or so back on this forum.

I own a stinger and have used the vyper on many occasions. I would recommend the vyper because you have the option of putting it in a console or on your wrist. You are kind of stuck with the stinger on your wrist, which is a pain in a drysuit. This may not matter now, but you may care in a few years. If I were buying now, I would definitely get a vyper. The only advantage to the stinger is its size, IMO. It is still bigger than most watches, heavier and more expensive for wearing around and beating up.

Between Stinger and Vyper..... I would choose Vyper. It is cheaper, bigger screen, have simulation.

But you would might consider Gekko, far cheaper than Vyper, without Simulation and PC Interface.

Def a wrist mount no matter what brand......
Brand wise would prob go with oceanic or genesis

Gekko has a PC interface, but no gauge mode.

Again i vote for Vyper. If i want a watch i buy a watch. If i want a dive computer i buy a dive computer. The vyper has a big chunky screen thats easier to see underwater and has simulation mode.

Personally i wouldnt WANT to wear my dive computer for every day wristwear anyway.

I don't think Gekko has PC interface. Do you have a Gekko to confirm this capability?
I don't own one, but have seen it. It has the prongs on the back for the download feature.

Since the literature, including dealer's info, is a little unclear, I called Aqualung (distributes Suunto in the US). They said it is downloadable.

Have I actually downloaded one? No. But I have some faith in dealer support knowing what they are doing. You could always have your dealer make another call for you and confirm.
