I just went to connect my cobra pc interface to my new laptop and found out there is no serial port. Is there another way to connect?

From what I understand, you can get the converter at any computer store. Laptops don't have a serial port (forget what they the laptop ports are called) but just expain you need the serial port converter for a laptop. They should be able to help you.

My new lappy has a serial port, DB9 to be exact, so some laptops do have serial ports. You have several options, some cheap and some not so cheap.
So as you can see, there is bound to be a way for you to connect it, just depends on how you want to go about it. However, I'm not 100% sure that that the above adapters will work with the interface. They'll hook you up, but they may or may not provide the proper communication to and from the interface. But for $1 or $17, you wouldn't loose much if they didn't.
NetDoc, being a network admin, may could answer that question. But I'd think they would indeed work. I know the PCMCIA card would get you going for sure, but it would cost about as much as the interface did. You might email Suunto and ask them as well.
Anyway, I can't recommend any of the vendors I linked to above except mwave. I've never delt with any of them except mwave.com. I've bought several thousands of dollars worth of hardware from mwave without single problem. I just provided the links to get you started and you should always check Resellers Ratings before buying online.
PS...You want a 9-pin (DB9) serial with a male end in whatever you get. There is also a 25 pin (DB25) serial, that wouldn't work. However, you can also buy 25 pin to 9 pin adapters, male to female adapters, and any combonation of them.
- You can buy a serial PCMCIA add-on card for laptops. That would be one way, a good one choice, but a pricey one. I just priced one at mwave.com, which is usually reasonable on prices, and they a few, the cheapest is $118.
- If you have a USB port, you can buy a USB to serial adapter. Computer Geeks lists one for $16.95.
- If you have a PS/2 connector, that's the round one that an external mouse/keyboard plugs into, you can get a PS/2 to serial adapter. CableClub.com lists one at $1.

Looks like Warhammer's got this one covered nicely. The Serial to USB adapter should be the easiest and cleanest solution for you, if you don't have a PS2 onboard. If you didn't I would be shocked
